Things To Do

Registry

We have much of what we need at this point in our lives, and the gift of your presence is all we really request! However, we know that some of you really want to do something for us and that is so very appreciated. After discussing this, we wanted to share that we love art from local, independent artists. We put together a list of some that we particularly love, but if you'd like to go in with others toward art we could buy as we continue to make our house a home, we will save until we find the perfect pieces.Artist ideas:Adam Test | Laurel, MSGabby Smith | Hattiesburg, MSShurden Glass | Hattiesburg, MSWalter Anderson Realizations Shop | MS/LAWe would also greatly appreciate, in lieu of a more physical gift, a donation to one of our favorite charitable causes, detailed below. We hope that anyone who desires to contribute to our lives finds joy in doing so in any of these ways.

Click here to donate to Animal Rescue New OrleansWe were introduced to this rescue by two of our closest friends, Chris and Amanda Maheu, who have been involved for over a decade. In addition to having fostered over 125 dogs and cats, Amanda runs their cat adoption program and has placed over 1,000 cats in loving homes over the past 8 years. We would love if anyone felt inclined to support the work we see is so lovingly done by Amanda and her fellow volunteers by donating to this cause.

Click here to donate to ComplexlyStarted in 2012 by John and Hank Green, this is the non-profit behind educational content you or your children have probably used, like Crash Course. With resources made to accompany high school and college level classes across a wide range of subjects, and used by millions of teachers, students, and learners of all kinds, Complexly is committed to keeping those high-quality resources freely available, for everyone, forever. They have also partnered with Arizona State University to create Study Hall, a program to provide affordable and flexible introductory college courses, at $25 to take a class and, once complete, less than $150/hr to convert the class to real college credit if desired.Complexly’s name comes from their mission to provide people the resources to imagine our world and each other as we really are: complexly. We believe strongly that a world where education is more accessible to our fellow humans is a better world for all. I, Lauren, feel that my understanding of the world and humans around me is better for having grown up with Complexly’s work and we would appreciate immensely if anyone wanted to join us in supporting this cause with a donation.

Click here to donate to the Maternal Center of Excellence in Sierra LeoneThe Paul E. Farmer Maternal Center of Excellence in Sierra Leone is another project we were introduced to by the Green brothers, as they have supported its' development with Partners in Health (PIH) since 2019. At that time, 1 in 17 Sierra Leonean women were dying in pregnancy or childbirth. PIH began working in Sierra Leone during the 2013-2016 Ebola epidemic. Being primarily a disease of caregiving, professional and familial, it was particularly devastating to Sierra Leone's already strained healthcare system. PIH is committed to long term healthcare system strengthening and the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) at Koidu Government Hospital represents a significant part of those efforts. As well as providing essential services to mothers and infants, it serves as a teaching hospital to train the next generation of Sierra Leonian midwives, nurses, and doctors. If you'd enjoy contributing to this project with us, we would also enjoy that!
